The most important distinction between biweekly and semi-monthly payments is the amount of frequency and timing. Biweekly pay is paid after every two weeks, which amounts to 26 pay periods annually whereas semi-monthly pay is paid twice a year, which is 24 pay periods. The pay dates (semi-monthly) are set (e.g., 15 th and 30 th), and the biweekly dates are flexible, and may mean three paychecks in a month. Half year is more suitable to monthly budgets and hence semi-monthly schedules are good with salaried employees. On the other hand, biweekly schedules favor hourly employees since every paycheck indicates a set number of working days. Their selection will be determined by company needs and the preferences of its employees.
